HOSTED BY THE NORTHERN CROPS INSTITUTE

Mark your calendars for July 25, 2023, for the Northern Crops Institute’s Ancient Grains Conference! This conference will be held at the Oliver Kelley Farm in Elk River, MN, and aims to provide an educational and promotional setting to explore the characteristics and utilization of Ancient Grains.

The conference will begin with registration, refreshments and networking at 8:30 am (CDT) at the Oliver Kelley Farm in Elk River, MN. There will be a number of presentations and breakout sessions for participants to choose from. The event will offer complimentary breakfast and lunch, as the event will end at 4:30 pm (CDT).

About Ancient Grains

Ancient Grains, also known as Heritage Grains, have provided food for humans and have had minimal changes to their genetic coding by selective breeding.

Types of Ancient Grains

Ancient grains can be classified as cereal grains that include wheat, barley, sorghum, oats, millet, rice, and rye; pseudo-cereals include amaranth, buckwheat, chickpeas; and as oilseed, such as flax, hemp, safflower, and soybeans.

Facts About Ancient Grains

Today, many ancient grains remain dietary staples for diverse populations in many parts of the developing world. They also offer infinite ways to be prepared.

Heavy appetizers and a cash bar are available for participants. There is a limited capacity, so please indicate if you’d like to join at registration.

The Northern Crops Institute is hosting the Ancient Grains Conference at the Oliver Kelley Farm, an educational facility that highlights past and present farming, food, and agriculture. It features a historic 19th-century farmstead, excellent conference venue, multiple crop plots, and nature trails along the Mississippi River. The Oliver Kelley Farm honors past accomplishments in agriculture and is the ideal setting for this Ancient Grains Conference.
